Who we work with

We have worked with partners at MIT and beyond to develop ORCD’s early vision. We are grateful to Information Systems & Technology (IS&T), MIT Libraries, MIT Facilities, and the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC) – please read on to see how we are working with them:

IS&T

IS&T supported the Research Computing Project throughout its time. (ORCD builds on the work of MIT’s Research Computing Project, led for over a decade by Chris Hill.) In the realm of research computing, IS&T supports network infrastructure, both on campus and at remote sites; provides software and software support used in research computing and data; manages a large part of MIT’s cloud computing; and collaborates on projects such as our access portal. ORCD and IS&T leadership will work together to ensure seamless coverage for research computing.

MIT Libraries

Our partnership with the MIT Libraries, led by Chris Bourg, will expand on their current activities curating the Institute’s scholarly content, supporting researchers in managing and storing data, and establishing persistent access to the journals, manuscripts, and data sets critical to the research of many PIs. The Libraries will work with us to navigate the policy landscape imposed by federal funders, make MIT’s open data findable and reusable, and help PIs to develop the Data Management Plans (DMPs) that define how the PI and MIT will make federally supported research accessible to the public.

MIT Facilities and MGHPCC

MIT Facilities, the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center, MGHPCC, IS&T, ORCD, and others have worked together to build out our space at MGHPCC, with 64 racks for new hardware that will become available during this Fall.  We believe the new MGHPCC space will meet the campus’ needs for some time, but ORCD and other parts of MIT have already been working on how we will meet MIT’s long-term computing and data needs.
